Wendy Ottman, President

Wendy has been with Amstar from its inception, holding the position of Secretary Treasurer and functioning as a silent partner. But -- with the blessings of growth and success -- she decided it was time to take a visible and more active role in the business, so she assumed the title and responsibilities of company president in 2012.

With Wendy as president, the company is taking full advantage of her twenty-plus years of corporate and small business experience by using her proven leadership skills and business acumen to help oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations as well as plan for the future.

Previously, Wendy was a senior account executive with one of the state’s largest advertising agencies, where she developed successful communication programs for companies marketing major appliances, specialty chemical products and student loan programs.

While with the agency, Wendy also held a position as director of interactive services where she led a team of designers, developers and programmers in the creation of all types of interactive media. Plus she was a critical player in the complete development of a profitable asset management department.

Prior to her agency positions, Wendy worked for GE Appliances where her responsibilities included training, research, information management and customer service. She worked with builders, suppliers, customers and consumers, giving her a full understanding of all their needs and wants. Armed with that knowledge, she had the ability to deliver results in all areas.

With a background in business administration, a penchant for understanding the marketplace plus marketing and advertising experience to top it off, Wendy brings an overall business perspective and management skills to Amstar.

Never short on enthusiasm or ideas, Wendy has a keen eye for efficiency and a wide range of skills, making her a unique resource for clients as well as the expanding family business.

Gary J. Ottman, CFO, Senior Project Manager, LEED AP

From big picture concept to the smallest detail, Gary has a passion for perfection, and he applies his more than 25 years of experience to every Amstar project. Prior to founding Amstar in 1991, that experience included supervising tenant-finish and site-management projects for large contracting companies as well as supervising the construction of major bridges in Kentucky and Indiana.

Gary’s extensive knowledge of building construction, coupled with his thorough and principled approach to doing business, gives his clients assurance of a job well done—even before projects are initiated. Over the span of successful career, he has built a reputation for delivering the highest levels of quality, safety and technical expertise.

Active on many fronts, Gary currently serves in several key leadership positions. In addition to his role as CFO & Senior Project Manager of AMSTAR, he is the chief strategy officer for Air X Change Technologies, LLC, and Cherokee Construction and Excavating, both affiliates of Amstar. He also has served as chairman of SOZO International, Inc., a humanitarian nongovernmental organization dedicated to healthcare, education and economic improvement in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia.

Gary graduated from Regent University, where he earned his MA in Management and BS in Organizational Leadership. He also completed coursework in Business Administration at the University of Louisville, and he is registered as a broker with the Kentucky Real Estate Commission.

Clients trust Gary to do what’s right. Perhaps that’s because he believes the way he conducts business is every bit as valuable to his clients as the projects he completes on time and within budget.

Christie O’Connor, Office Manager

To say Christie has a knack for details would be an understatement. She began her career as an accounting assistant for Ohio Valley Aluminum, where she managed payroll as well as the administration of employee benefits. While there, Christie also handled accounts receivable which made her responsible for invoicing, receipts and credit validation for new customers.

After ten years with Ohio Valley Aluminum, Christie took her experience to Milestone Wellness Center where she managed accounts payable, payroll for over 200 employees, benefit packages, daily sales analysis and reconciliation for all departments.

In 2007, Christie joined AmStar and broadened her skill set even further. She not only manages company payroll, payroll tax returns and the administration of employee benefits, she also takes care of accounts payable disbursements and accounts receivable invoices.

Christie even finds time throughout her busy day to stay on top of analysis and reconciliation for AmStar’s general ledger accounts, she does cash management and bank reconciliations, and she prepares all contracts using the latest AIA document software. So, when it comes to getting things done accurately and expertly, management, employees and customers trust Christie.
